Life Matters

Life Matters Lenten Series

Yes, life does matter. Because it does, there are some matters in life that require our attention. It is those “later years” decisions and plans that we need to be putting into place now.

Our Lenten Series is being sponsored by Grace Calvary’s Stephen Ministry and will feature professional speakers to guide us in making our plans. Five sessions will be held on the five Thursday evenings in March, beginning on March 1st. We will gather at 5:30 p.m. in St. Julian’s Hall for light refreshment, followed by the program at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The sessions are as follows:

Thursday, March 1     “Aging in Place”

Walton Smith and Larry Williams, two community leaders involved in elder care housing, will help us explore ways in which the elderly can remain in our community and still get the services they need to be safe, comfortable, and cared for.

Thursday, March 8th    “Six Gifts for Surviving Retirement”

Jaime Huffman, Financial Advisor, Integrity Financial, will explore how we can successfully live out our retirement years in physical, spiritual and financial wellness.

Thursday, March 15th     “Estate Planning & Elder Law Issues”

Clair Langmaid, Attorney specializing in Estate Planning and Elder Law will bring us up-to-date on issues that affect our Estate Planning. He will also lead us through the issues surrounding Medicaid and what they mean for us.

Thursday, March 22nd    “Advance Health Care Directives”

Margaret Parsons, Registered Nurse and Robin Watts, Hospice Consultant (Regency Hospice) will lead us through the Georgia Directive for Health Care and the “Five Wishes” system. They will answer our questions and concerns in this area.

Thursday, March 29th     “The Final Celebration”

The Rev. Dena Bearl, Rector, Grace Calvary Episcopal Church will walk us through the process of planning for our Final Celebration. Don’t leave your loved ones to make these decisions at the worst possible time. God calls us to prepare.
