TAIZE’ PRAYER SERVICE

Join us in this beautiful historic church for the mystery of worship using candles, icons, chants and silence as “windows” through which we all may more deeply experience the Presence of God. The worship of a Taize’ Prayer Service is marked by depth and simplicity based on the form of liturgy known as “The Prayer” developed by the ecumenical brothers of Taize’ monastic community in France.   In an atmosphere of candlelight and icons, the service offers an opportunity to meditate and experience peace and an uplifting of spirit. Silence is a central part of the service. Opportunity for prayers at the altar is also offered. The beauty of the sanctuary of Grace-Calvary offers the perfect setting for such a service. A Taize’ Prayer Service feels comfortable the very first time you attend because of its simplicity.

A Taize’ Prayer Service is for the senses as well as the soul.  The sounds of chanted prayer, the sight of icons in the beautiful candlelight and the aroma of incense bring you and those around you to a shared, yet profoundly personal, spiritual experience.  For many people it brings out a meditative quality, allowing a person to focus more clearly on the issues that are important to them and to their spiritual growth. As the world becomes an increasingly busy and violent place, people yearn for time to stay in touch with themselves, with each other and with God. This is a service of quiet simplicity that sooths the soul. It is ecumenical in scope.

Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church offers a Taize’ Prayer Service each month on the fourth Sunday evening for our community. The service is offered at 7:00 P.M. in the spring and summer and at 6:00 P.M. in the fall and winter.

The November/December services are combined as an Advent Taize’ Prayer Service on the first Sunday evening in December.

All people seeking greater spiritual awareness and growth are welcome.
