Greetings
From the Rector
The Reverend Dena S. Bearl † Beloved
of Grace-Calvary, The
book Those Episkopols by Dennis Maynard is a book I like to give to people
when they are preparing to join the Episcopal Church. In looking through
it again this year, I ran across this description of the Anglican Communion: If you’re
looking for a church that has Morality but
not moralism, The Bible
but not bibliolatry, Law but not
legalism, Emotion but
not emotionalism, Piety but
not pietism, Tradition
but not sentimentalism, Then you’re
probably in the right place. |

If you’re
looking for a church where diversity is celebrated
and not condemned, where
thinking is stimulated and not discouraged, where
righteous living is of greater value than right talking, where being
loving is more important than being right, you’re in
the right place. If you’re
looking for a church where Jesus is central, a church
that is not afraid to ask difficult questions of Him and of itself, then you are
in the right place. But one word
of caution: In such a
church open to the ongoing revelations of God people will
constantly be required to look at
old things in new ways. Reminds
me of these familiar verses: I am about
to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? Isaiah 43:19 Then I saw a
new heaven and a new earth…and I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming
down out of heaven from God…and the one who was seated on the throne said,
“See, I am making all things new.” Rev 21:1ff As I write this, I am heading south for some rest and renewal. Thank goodness, God never fails to give us new life and new vision if we will provide the time! I hope you will find time for renewal during these summer months. In Christ’s love,

COMMITTEES AND HAPPENINGS PLANNED GIVING – A “planned gift” is one that will be made in the
future. Such gifts include life
insurance, bequests by will or various trust instruments that will cause a
gift to be made upon the happening of some event. Such gifts often have beneficial tax
consequences for the donor, but must be carefully structured so consult your
accountant or tax advisor.

3rd Monday of each month in St. Julian Hall from 10am to 1pm. At
our first gathering, we had 8 ladies knitting, quilting, mending,
needlepointing and enjoying wonderful fellowship. Bring a sack lunch,
your beverage & whatever project you want to work on. Hope to
see you there. Becky Jackson Who’s Counting? How many
of us would choose to begin our week by grappling with math problems for
several hours? Well, each Monday
morning two of our counters, in rotating pairs, do just that. They meet in the church office to tabulate,
recount, and allocate funds according to the written directions found on our
pledge envelopes, checks or cash (notes attached). Who are these dedicated volunteers who toil
on our behalf each Monday morning? They are church members Mary Clarke, Ron
